Whatever Happened to “Mary Had a Little Lamb”?

Mary Had a Little Lamb…

Where is Mary now?… What happened to the lamb?… Details at 11:00…

I want to take a moment to help you check something that is influencing your life – The Media.

If you feel good after watching the nightly news, you should probably be seeing a mental health professional. The nightly news has become a train wreck followed by a series of car crashes. You would probably feel better watching a Crash-up Derby.

The Daytona 500…

Speaking of the Crash-up Derby… I think everyone watching the Daytona 500 got their thrills in the first few minutes of the race. It must be a HUGE relief valve on the daily pressure cooker to witness millions of dollars worth of cars, with millions of dollars worth of advertising get bashed beyond recognition in a matter of moments of starting the race. If you were able to listen real closely over the cacophony of screaming engines at ear popping decibels, you would have heard a great Hisss… like steam escaping. (That was a Joke… Relieving pressure…)

If that weren’t enough car crashes, you also had the Oscar’s! The most amazing thing I observe about the Oscar’s is the aftermath. This occurs with any of the award shows. There are even spoofs of award shows demonstrating just how silly the whole thing is. The magazines alone will gain enough gossip in that few hours to keep stories coming out for the next year. It makes me wonder if they have a magazine or TV show called “The Oscar Review“. Imagine, 24 hours a day coverage of past Oscars with a countdown meter till the next one. What fun! (If they invent it after this article comes out, I want my cut.)

I was originally talking about the nightly news… So, along with the stories I just mentioned that in some way are meant to make you feel good. If you are not already depressed, we also have the Big Dollar political posturing, squandering, manipulating, agitating, humiliating, and just downright name calling. I guess that about sums it all up.

Oh, remember I had asked, “Whatever Happened to “Mary Had a Little Lamb“? Well, I am sure by now you can figure out what happened to them once the nightly news got a hold of the story… It was NOT a happy ending, for either of them. CSI got involved. (Sorry, a little bit of wry sarcasm.)

Ooops… Almost forgot.

The most important thing that most people actually sit through and watch the news for, is always clear at the end of the news cast; the Weather Report. I hope for your sake the sun is shining tomorrow. So, if you are eating your lunch outside, you can catch a few rays on your pale skin to produce a little Vitamin D and be a little more resilient to your environment.

Charity Begins at Home…

If you don’t do things to help yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally, for your sake, START! If you take steps to deal with the components of your “triad” – mental, physical, and spiritual (emotional), then you should take a moment to check if what you are doing now is effective. Times change, people change. What was working for you before may no longer be relevant to your current life. Check it.

There is a lot riding on you…

Of course you may want to be doing something that is more fun than reconstructing YOU into the better person. That is up to you. I gave you only one example of what the media is throwing at you every day. You need to take measures to fend off the tears of others. You can start by turning the TV off.

Great Things Happen Here!

Do You Invest in Yourself?

Why do so few people invest in their education?

How much do you invest in your education?

When was the last time you spent actual cash to further your education?

I have crafted 7 Strategies for Passionate Performance in Your Life, that are available from my website. One of those Strategies is this:

‘Invest 5% of your time and your money in your education and ongoing learning’

This means 8 hours a week plus a 5% portion of your income. Imagine if you are earning $75000 pa, you would invest $3750 pa in courses and learning.

The best available evidence shows that less than one in 10 people invest money in their education after they have finished their secondary or tertiary education, this is the best way to invest money. Many universities and Technical Colleges are struggling financially because they cannot get enough students.

This is a ridiculous state of affairs, and must change for the sake of each individual’s future, and for the future of your country. In a rapidly-changing world with dramatic technology advances, together with global economic challenges and changes, how can any person hope to stay current and valuable with ongoing learning and development?

Such a hope is ridiculous, as I said.

Do not be one of these people.

Why do so few people invest in their education? Here are some reasons that I believe to be the cause:

  • · They hated their importance of education when they were at school
  • · They got little value from their past education
  • · They do not want to learn something new, because they may have to do something new, leading to increased risk of failure
  • · They do not understand the value of learning something new
  • · They are lazy, unmotivated, unhealthy, worn-out by the existing demands of life
  • · They are broke, and cannot afford to spend any money on it
  • · They have lost their passion
  • · They prefer to blame others for their existing predicaments, rather than taking responsibility.
  • · They do not have the time because of too much happening in their lives at present.

Do you know of other reasons? Please send them to me.

When you understand the value and clear imperative of continuing your learning and development, you will wake up and invest.

You are your most valuable resource!

Go for it, with passion!

Speak the Truth. Others know.

Speak the Truth

The need to speak the truth and the role of your passion in doing so

I am a huge fan of Buckminster Fuller, a man who died in 1983 but who was awarded 47 Honorary Doctorates from Universities around the world. He was a genius, and his work lives on.

In the introduction to his last book, Critical Path, published just before he died, he said:

“…All of humanity is in peril of extinction if each one of us does not dare, now and henceforth, always to tell only the truth, and all the truth, and to do so promptly – right now.”

I invite you to contemplate what would make such a wise man, a true genius, to say such a thing. In this blog, I will share some thoughts I have on the topic, and the role that your passion plays in whether or not you do tell the truth.

I believe that truth is enormously powerful. When you speak your truth, you are powerful. There is a useful distinction on this point. I have learned to ‘speak the truth with compassion’, or express ‘honesty without malice’. There is usually no need to intentionally hurt people by expressing your truth in brutal ways!

Truth is

There are two types of truth.

Truth that is objectively true, commonly called a ‘fact’, such as “I drove the car into the other car”; or, subjective truth, a matter that you believe or consider to be true: “I consider that my colleagues are not committed to their work.” This may or not be objectively true, or it may not even be able to be finally determined.

When you are passionate, you will be courageous. It requires courage to speak the truth. When you express what is true, you are often taking a big risk. Yet, Fuller says the humanity is in danger of extinction if we don’t take this risk. It seems to me, that avoiding extinction is a great reason to speak more truth.

In your organization, particularly if it is large, there will always be politics at work. I have thought long and hard about why this is so, and I believe it is ubiquitous due to the complexity of human beings and their behaviors and motivations.

What is politics at work? I say that the volume of politics is inversely proportional to the volume of truth. In other words, the more truth that is spoken, the less politics there will be.

Politics at work leads to people being favored and promoted over others for the wrong reasons. It means people losing their jobs for the wrong reasons. It means lies and untruths that hurt and upset people, and kill passion.

Here are some of the advantages to you of accessing your passion and your courage to speak what is true, either objectively or subjectively:

  • You will feel liberated
  • You will help to reduce politics in your workplace
  • You will help your workplace become more successful
  • You will help your workplace become more productive and profitable
  • You will improve your relationships
  • You will have better relationships
  • You will lose relationships that are built on falsehoods
  • You will become more powerful
  • You will gain a reputation for speaking the truth
  • You will gain a reputation for being courageous
  • You will help to reduce the risk that humanity will become extinct!

Let me know if you can see additional advantages for speaking the truth.

That Which Does Not Kill You Makes You Stronger

The 3 Most Important Seconds of My Life

Eastern Brown Snake - Australia

Eastern Brown Snake – Australia

PEOPLE have events that shape their path in life. Some events solidify the path they are on, some events change their direction in life forever, and some of these events end life. I have had several significant events in my life that have led me to the specific path that I am on. Early in my life I started noticing these things. I also came to understand that these events were to help me become the person that would be meeting higher and higher challenges. This article is about one of those events.

“That Which Does Not Kill You Makes You Stronger”

– Friedrich Nietzsche

A Millimeter Away From Death

There is one thing that strikes fear into Australian’s like nothing else…

As you know, I live in Australia. I enjoy the landscape, the plants, and the wildlife. The diversity of wildlife is an interesting mix. Everywhere I look, I see pretty and colorful birds, like various cockatoos, rosellas, galas, fairy wrens, honey eaters, finches, swallows, magpies, choughs, and many more. Some mornings I wake up to find 300 – 400 sulfur-crested cockatoos in the paddock. In American terms, a fortune on the wing!

I also see many marsupials, such as kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, and others. The wallabies can be a little tame to the point that you can at least have a good look before they move on. Some people have made them so tame they will eat out of your hand. The echidnas are a little slow, but they sure can dig in fast. Don’t ever try to get one out of the ground after they dig in. It is their instinct to shiver their spikes when they are touched – ouch! At least they cannot throw their spines like the quills of the North American porcupine.

The insects here can be a bit of a mixed bag. The dragon flies are most impressive. They are quite large with striking metallic color. They can eat a huge number of mosquitoes each day. It is not a good idea to grab one, as they can easily take a small bite out of your finger. So, when you find that you have a large amount of dragonflies, you also have a large number of mozzies. “Mozzie” is a shortened name that is used across Australia for any mosquito.

My observations and research have proven useful to me. I have determined that one of the mosquitoes we have is the Asian Tiger Mosquito. That news is NOT good news. The Asian Tiger Mosquito is a carrier of several types of encephalitis type diseases, including Ross River Fever and Dengue Fever. Most people do not realize the mosquito is the leading cause of death around the world. Since it must have a blood feed twice, it is easy for it to transmit diseases.

Of course Australia is world renowned for its flies. They are in interesting lot, which includes sand flies and midges. Don’t even think that a screen on your window will keep them out. Ha, they just walk straight through the holes. Our sand flies leave a little extra punch when they bite you; a caustic that creates a blister. But don’t scratch it. If you do, you will spread the caustic and you will have even a bigger problem. It will also leave a pock for ~6 months while it heals. I created a few tricks of my own making to combat these – a hand-held ionization device made from a gas barbeque igniter. It ionizes the caustic poison.

Spiders and scorpions are also commonplace. Where I live, the climate gets a little too cold for the Sydney Funnelweb Spider. Well, that’s a blessing. But we still have plenty of others you got to keep a watchful eye for.

Yes, I am starting to make this sound like one of the documentaries about the Australian wildlife straight out of America. I guess I was a little saturated with the American way of looking at it before I came here to live. Australia is still an arid hostile environment in most areas. So, nature has equipped its natural inhabitants with some world-class killing tools to survive, you can kill yourself in 5 minutes.

A while ago, I wrote two articles about dealing with fear. You can review the articles here: https://mindtomind.com/test/information_conquers_fear_mental_photography/, and a second article:  https://mindtomind.com/test/information_conquers_fear_mental_photography_2/.

The one thing that most people in Australia have is common fear of snakes. This fear can be anywhere between “healthy respect” to “blind, screaming, running phobia” towards snakes. We have 9 out of the top 10 deadliest snakes in the world are here in Australia. We even have 22 out of the top 25 deadliest snakes in the world. So watch out if you ever land here!

The Fierce Snake, or Inland Tiapan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus ), has a venom so toxic it could kill 100 men in a single bite. Luckily, this snake is not around where I live. But, there are plenty of Eastern Brown Snakes (Pseudonaja textilis ) where I live. They have the second most toxic venom in the world. It is estimated that only 2 mg of venom is enough to kill a person. Eastern Brown Snakes are very fast moving and highly aggressive. We do occasionally see them. Most of the times you see them is on the road, after they have been run over by a car.

Now, the reason I brought up about the top 2 deadliest snakes in the entire world will become apparent soon.

Some people wonder if I practice what I teach others about. I do. I would first like to bring your attention to the first article listed above. During the article on dealing with fear, I talk about what information can do for you.

Here is a lesson in basic humanity. (Of course, there will always be someone that will argue the case that it isn’t so, so I will allow for that and say ‘most’.) The amount of specific good information you have on any topic dissipates your amount of fear towards that topic. Therefore, it is relevant to say the LACK of information INCREASES fear. I guess a good argument against this would be about banking. The more true information that you know about banking would send some people out of control into a pit of despair. So, I have done the naysayers out there the benefit of giving them the example forthright.

Face to Face With Death

What I am about to tell you about is my own recent experience when faced with something that could result in a very quick ad painful death. Yes, I had an encounter with an Eastern Brown Snake. And to answer your other question; no, I am not a snake handler. When I come in contact with things like snakes, it is an occasional occurrence, much like it would be for most of you. You are more likely to see a live poisonous snake at your zoo, behind glass. So, remember, I don’t deal with this type of encounter very often.

I often talk about the things you can do to increase your mental abilities and your mind power. I have worked with these methods, the same methods I teach, for many years. When I am thrown into a critical circumstance, my decision making becomes lightning fast at analyzing the event and coming to the conclusion of what I should do in less time it would take to blink – virtually instantaneous. Even better is that I have ample specific information to act from. This all happened so fast, that there was no sense of “thinking about it” happening – just action.

The “action” was: for me to not do anything at all. (Yes, there is action in non-action because it is based upon a decision – consciously of subconsciously.) Therefore, I had no fear response that would have sent fear based pheromones into the air the snake would have sensed. There was only stillness. To me, it was if time had stopped, without any stress. As the snake escaped, I felt the cool belly scales as he slid over my sandaled foot without as much as a second look. He was happy to move on to pick his battles elsewhere – with mice. I too, was happy with the results of the encounter. This entire encounter lasted about 3 seconds.

Those 3 seconds could have changed everything in my life-path. Instead, it turned into an observation I could share with you. Some people may say, “My life passed before my eyes.” No, it didn’t. Just for that instant, it was just me and the snake. Maybe I will just make a joke about it and say, “I would have tasted awful to the snake, so he chose otherwise.”

Lessons Learned

Don’t panic – Use your head.

Be aware – Don’t wear sandals when you should be wearing appropriate shoes for the setting.

Think! – Arm yourself with appropriate information for your setting or endeavor.

Granted you cannot anticipate everything. But, superior decisions can be made with superior information at hand.

My Advice to Everyone

LEARN as much as you can every day. If you have not learned 1 thing each day, then you are not in the world of the living.

Increase your Mind Power – Do whatever you can to increase the adaptability of your brain. Your brain is capable of processing around 200 million of bits of information every second of every day. The more you exercise your brain, the more access you gain. Crossword puzzles are only so effective at brain building. At some point, they are really only good for maintaining a certain level. You need more – MUCH more stimulus if you are going to make a difference.

Discipline yourself – A BIG issue with many of my clients is starting then stopping the training. Whenever you stop before reaching your goals, your conscious mind thinks that you have failed, even when you haven’t. Commitment and Consistency are paramount to your success at anything. Some of my clients have repeated that same start and stop with OTHER trainings from OTHER organizations they took in the past. I don’t want them to repeat the same mistake with my training.

Set Goals for Yourself – If you have small goals, you will have little successes. Some people will do better if they start with something a little less intimidating; like meditation training. If you find that the ideas of what I teach are too overwhelming, then you should probably start with something a little less aggressive, like meditation. Everyone has heard of it and knows what it is about. At least this way you will be finding out more about yourself and how your mind really works. My point is DO SOMETHING. You owe it to your eternal self.

Faithfully,

Shannon Panzo

The Word of the Day is Support, S U P P O R T

The Word of the Day – Support

How to achieve your change: designing your Support

As I said before in my previous article,s changing behavior is usually most difficult.

The two key factors that you need are Stimuli to change, and then Support. That earlier blog discussed your Stimuli.

This article will deal with the value of designing the necessary Support that will lead you to successfully changing your behavior.

I will continue by exploring two examples of desired changes that we seem to have the greatest difficulties in: weight loss and attitude.

After you have answered the first question of why you want to lose weight or have a different attitude, you then need Support if you are amongst 90% of the population to help you achieve this change. I acknowledge that 10% of the population can change as soon as they realize the stimuli for the change: they don’t need Support!

There are two types of Support: Internal Support and External Support.

The first is entirely you.

The second is external to you.

Here are some examples. More are available from my website and my books.

Internal Support

• Read your goals of weight loss or attitude change aloud morning, noon and night
Visualize with emotion daily how you will feel when you succeed in losing weight or changing your attitude
• Make your affirmations daily that you have designed
• Reward yourself when you have taken a successful step along the way of weight loss or attitude change.
• Impose a penalty on yourself when you have failed to do what you committed to do.
• And so on….

External Support

• Hire a personal trainer
• Hire an executive coach
• Use a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist
• Join a gym
• Do ZOX Pro Training
• Have a wager with another friend who also wants to lose weight or change attitude. Bet that you will do better than they will!
• Get one or more friends to join you in a group to achieve similar changes.
• Create or join a master mind group
• And so on….

Successful people learn that most of us need Support. They are willing to be held accountable by ‘external’ forces that help them change in the ways that they want to change but are likely to fail.

Now, write down your own possible Internal and External Support Mechanisms, and the longer the list, the better! Use your imagination and remind yourself of all the possible resources you have been exposed to that will support you.

As I said, ZOX Pro Training is one of these resources.

My various blog articles on the Mind to Mind website will be helpful in provoking some ideas in designing your Support.
